Revolutionary FenceSafe Temporary Construction Site Fencing keeps Manchester Metrolink expansion safe and secure.

Manchester Metrolink’s £350m project, which started in 2017, will expand the tramlines around Manchester which in 2017/18 saw 41.2 million passenger journeys. The new Trafford Park line will branch off from the existing Pamona stop and call at 6 new stops including Wharfside near to Old Trafford Football Stadium, The Imperial War Museum, Key Business Areas and visitor destinations such as EventCity and the intu Trafford Centre.

Steve Thomas, Contracts Manager at FareFence (NW) talks about the Metrolink project and the FenceSafe System:

  • In a joint venture with Laing O’Rouke, CLD supports ACS member, FareFence (NW) to help keep the site safe and secure for staff and the public with construction site fencing. Due to the work on the new tracks cutting through existing properties of companies, roads and public areas such as CHEP Pallets and Hovis Bread, they needed to provide the safety and security of a permanent fenceline but one that could be easily adaptable as the project evolves.

  • CLDs FenceSafe Eclipse was chosen for the project because it has the ability to easily and quickly be assembled and dismantled, meaning as the project progresses, they can move the system to different sites and spaces when required. The system hosts anti-trip protection which keeps staff and members of the public safe when passing by. It’s also wind rated to BS EN 1991; in excess of 100mph, so there is comfort knowing the zero ground strike system won’t blow down during strong winds into the busy tramline tracks or block busy city roads.

For the past 18 months main contractor, FareFence (NW) have been installing, disassembling and moving the FenceSafe system around the Metrolink sites and will continue to do so throughout the completion of the project until 2021.
